Jackson High School
Project Scope: Additions and renovations to school building
Owner: Jackson R-2 School District
Location: 315 S. Missouri Street, Jackson, Missouri
Project Delivery: General Construction
This project brought together the new and existing structures under one roof to create a 110,000-square-foot footprint. The new development included construction of spaces with suitable acoustics and practice rooms for music programs, a cafeteria with common areas and art rooms. Key to the plan was an events center with seating on upper and lower levels, spacious locker rooms and a sports floor to serve as both a high school gymnasium and a place for performance arts.
Penzel Construction has a long history of working with the Jackson R-2 School District. Penzel built both the A Building in 1920, and the C Building—to be used as an elementary school—in 1938. The B Building was built in 1950 for a student body of 424. In 2006, as numbers of students surged to more than 1,200, it was time to update the structures and create a top-notch facility that would serve the students well into the future.
